No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari and IT Cell chief Amit Malviya shared a video purportedly showing Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad vaping inside the Lok Sabha. Sharing the clip on social media, Bhandari labeled the act a "crime" and an insult to the "Temple of Democracy." The BJP has demanded a response from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the conduct of her parliamentarians.
This controversy follows recent allegations by BJP MP Anurag Thakur, who had accused TMC veteran Saugata Roy of using e-cigarettes inside the House for several days. Thakur pointed out that e-cigarettes have been completely banned in India since 2019 under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act. While the proceedings were briefly halted, Speaker Om Birla assured the House that strict action would be taken if a formal complaint with evidence was submitted.
Defending his colleague, Kirti Azad had previously dismissed Thakur’s claims as baseless and retaliated by suggesting he could name "hundreds of Parliamentarians" who smoke on the premises. Azad argued that making allegations without proof was a violation of House procedures. However, the release of the recent video by BJP leaders has now put the spotlight directly on Azad, intensifying the debate over parliamentary decorum and the enforcement of statutory bans within government buildings.
